Business Days Calculator

Enter a start and end date to count the exact number of business days between them — weekends excluded automatically. Or pick a start date and add working days forward to find a deadline.

How to Count Business Days

  1. Choose a mode: "Between Dates" to count working days in a range, or "Add Working Days" to find a future deadline.
  2. Enter your dates — start date and either an end date or a number of business days to add.
  3. Read the result — the exact count of weekdays, excluding Saturdays and Sundays.

What Is a Business Days Calculator?

A business days calculator counts the number of weekdays (Monday through Friday) between two dates, or finds a target date by adding or subtracting a given number of working days. This is useful for contract deadlines, invoice payment terms, project planning, shipping estimates, and any situation where weekends should not count as working time.

Calendar days and business days diverge significantly over longer ranges. A 30-calendar-day period contains only 20–22 business days. A 10-business-day window spans exactly two calendar weeks if it starts on a Monday, but could stretch to 12 calendar days if it starts on a Thursday. The distinction matters in legal documents, invoices, and HR policies where "days" is specified without clarification.

Note that this calculator excludes weekends only. Public and bank holidays vary by country, state, and industry — they must be accounted for manually. For US federal contractors, for example, the 10 standard federal holidays reduce a typical work year from 260 to 250 available business days.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a business day?

A business day is any day that is not a Saturday, Sunday, or public holiday. In most countries, business days run Monday through Friday. This calculator excludes weekends automatically; for holiday exclusions, check with your specific region or contract terms.

How do I count business days between two dates?

Enter your start date and end date. The calculator counts every weekday (Monday–Friday) in that range, excluding both Saturdays and Sundays. The start date itself is included in the count if it is a weekday.

How do I add business days to a date?

Switch to "Add Working Days" mode, enter your start date and the number of business days to add, then click Calculate. The result shows the exact end date, skipping over any weekends that fall within the count.

Are public holidays excluded?

This calculator excludes weekends only. Public holidays vary by country, region, and industry, so they are not automatically excluded. To account for holidays, subtract them manually from the result.

What is "net days" vs "business days"?

"Net days" (e.g., Net 30) in contract payment terms typically means 30 calendar days, not 30 business days. Always clarify with the other party. Business days only count Monday–Friday, so 30 business days is approximately 6 calendar weeks.

How many business days are in a month?

A typical month has 20–23 business days depending on the month and year. February has the fewest (around 19–20); months with 31 days and fewer weekend days can reach 23. On average, a month contains about 21.7 business days.

How many business days are in a year?

A standard year has 260–262 business days (52 weeks × 5 weekdays), depending on which days January 1 and December 31 fall on. Leap years do not change this significantly. After subtracting typical US holidays (10 federal), working days are closer to 250.

Can I calculate business days for a deadline?

Yes. Use "Add Working Days" mode: enter the start date (e.g., today) and the number of business days required (e.g., 10). The calculator returns the exact deadline date, skipping weekends.

What if my start date is a weekend?

If the start date is a Saturday or Sunday, the calculation begins from the following Monday. If you are counting from a start date that is itself included in the count, a weekend start date does not count as a business day.

Is this calculator free?

Yes — completely free, no sign-up, no registration. The calculation runs entirely in your browser; nothing is sent to any server.
